MEDICAL CODING.
Medical Coding is the conversion of medical process of a patient like medical diagnosis, treatment received and prescription into universally accepted codes. Later they are billed to insurance companies for claiming insurance and payment purposes. For coding, they use a specific set of codes like ICD (International Classification of Codes), HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System) and CPT(Current Procedural Terminology). The use of standard codes allows insurance providers to map equivalencies across different services providers who may use different terminologies or abbreviations in their written claim forms and be used to justify reimbursement of fees and expenses.
International Classification of Codes or ICD was published and managed by WHO (World Health Organization). It permits the tracking of many new diagnosis and diseases. For example code B06.9 denotes rubella.
Rubella is an illness caused by the virus RuV. It causes a rash, low fever and other symptoms. It's highly contagious person-to-person. The disease can spread through direct contact with the saliva or mucus of an infected person or through the air by respiratory droplets produced from coughing or sneezing.
Symptoms often appear two or three weeks after exposure and also include mild fever and headache. Enlarged neck lymph nodes, eye redness, headache, red rashes or runny nose. There's no treatment to get rid of an established infections but medications may help with symptoms. Vaccination can help prevent the disease
Likewise, from a single code we can derive a whole lot of information from the single codes.
