MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, process, equipment used, treatment received, prescriptions, and more into alphanumeric codes. These codes are later billed into insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purposes. These codes must be accurate as they make up the whole claim. There consists of three types of codes, ICD, CPT and HCPCS.
ICD Codes or International Classification of Diseases are set of diagnostic codes proposed and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes contains signs, symptoms and abnormal findings on a patient. For instance A30.9 denotes leprosy.
Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, is a chronic infectious disease that affects the skin, peripheral nerves, and mucous membranes. It is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, and is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Symptoms of leprosy can include skin lesions, muscle weakness, and nerve damage. Treatment for leprosy typically involves antibiotics, and in some cases, surgery.
